Terms of Service

Last updated: October 9, 2026. These terms cover the Checkered Crown website, The Road and Checkered Crown Coach.

Your household

An adult creates and manages each Coach household, keeps its login secure, and has permission to link its players and games. Children use the household with adult supervision. Do not share another person's private information or use accounts or games without permission.

Coach plans and billing

Coach includes three free reviewed games. A fourth new review requires a subscription. The Player plan is $9.99 USD per month and includes reviews and practice for one player. The Household plan is $19.99 USD per month and adds multiple players, Parent Monday, rating trends and learning summaries. Applicable taxes, if any, and the total are shown before payment.

A subscription renews monthly until canceled. Starting a free household does not authorize a payment. You choose a plan and authorize recurring payment through Stripe Checkout. Features remain subject to service availability.

Cancellation and billing help

Open billing management in Coach Settings to cancel through Stripe's Customer Portal. The portal shows when cancellation takes effect. When cancellation is scheduled for the end of a paid period, access continues through that period. Cancellation stops future renewal charges; it does not automatically refund charges already incurred. For billing errors or refund requests, contact admin@checkeredcrown.com. These terms do not limit rights you have under applicable law.

Learning and historical stories

Stockfish evaluates chess positions; Crown characters explain the learning ideas. Coaching is educational and does not guarantee wins or a rating increase. Historical settings and events are distinguished from fictional characters and game challenges.

Fair use

Do not disrupt the service, bypass account or payment protections, send unsolicited signups, or use automation to abuse imports or reviews. We may restrict access that threatens other users or service security.

Content and your data

Checkered Crown artwork, stories, characters and branding belong to their respective rights holders. Using the service does not transfer ownership of that content. You retain your rights in content you submit and permit us to process it to provide reviews and household features. Changes and support
