Privacy Policy

This policy covers the Checkered Crown website, release-update waitlist, and Coach households.

Checkered Crown Coach is managed by an adult account holder. Players have display names, age bands and public chess usernames; children do not create separate accounts in this version.

Who operates Coach

Checkered Crown LLC operates Checkered Crown Coach. For privacy questions, access requests, or help deleting household data, email admin@checkeredcrown.com.

Website email updates and Kit

When you join a waitlist form, we send your email address and signup source to Kit, our email-list provider. Kit manages signup and confirmation status and delivers Checkered Crown release updates about stories, comics, collections and The Road. Joining asks us to send those updates; it does not create a Coach household or a paid subscription.

The waitlist uses an email confirmation step. After you submit, check your inbox and confirm to complete signup. You can unsubscribe using the link in an update email or contact admin@checkeredcrown.com for help removing your email-list information. Email updates are for ages thirteen and older; parents can subscribe on behalf of younger readers.

Website hosting and usage

Vercel hosts the website. On pages where it is enabled, Vercel Web Analytics helps us understand page visits, social-follow clicks and waitlist submission outcomes. These conversion events contain the platform, page source or result, and do not include your email address or chess data.

We also use hashed request identifiers and attempt counts to limit abusive signups and account requests.

What Coach stores

Supabase manages household authentication and password security. Coach stores the account email, household subscription status and billing progress timestamps, linked player profiles, imported public games or pasted PGNs, engine reviews, lesson completions and weekly summaries. Household data is accessible only through its signed-in account.

How coaching is produced

Stockfish evaluates positions. Optional character wording uses a third-party language service receiving short move-fact packets. The application does not send account email, player name or the complete PGN to that service, and does not use games to train models. A verified factual explanation is available when that service is disabled or its response is rejected.

Payments and account recovery

Stripe processes payment information through its hosted Checkout and billing portal. Checkered Crown does not store payment card details. Supabase Auth sends account confirmation and password reset emails through the configured email provider.

Your controls

An adult can export household data or permanently delete the household from Settings. Deletion removes linked profiles, games, reviews, reports and sessions, and cancels an active subscription. Anonymous engine-position caches exclude household identifiers. Payment providers retain their own transaction records.

Before adding a player

Only link games you have permission to use. This product is intended for players aged eight and older. The account holder controls access to the household. A shared login grants access to every linked player and billing controls; separate child access is not included in this version.
